Ghost Town explores the aimless search for meaning and the painful process of letting go.
Cheryl, 18, paranoid, insecure, and restless, is terrified of the uncertainty that lies ahead of her. She worries that her big dreams exceed her grasp bound to her mundane reality. Her best friend, Min, on the other hand, is about to leave for university overseas, on the precipice of a life-changing adventure.
The film follows Cheryl and Min through a nighttime odyssey through the streets of Singapore. Cheryl wants things to stay the way they are, but is ironically deeply unsatisfied. Min pushes her to see things from her perspective. She proposes a violent eruption to shake up Cheryl’s life.
Min’s naive eagerness to carve out her own life eventually is dispelled when she finally recognizes that even she cannot let go of the handrails she has been raised with. In the end, Cheryl learns to acknowledge her ghosts, and in the process, frees herself to move forward.
外卖 is a Mandarin film about a family struggling to make ends meet, and the tensions that arise between loved ones.
Home may not be filled with riches, nor is it certain to be harmonious, but it is the warmest place on Earth.
